Compass Point Storm Tower

Originally built in 1835, the tower is constructed from Cornish granite, Elvan stone and slate. This octagonal tower was historically was used as a coastguard look out point. Now, due to coastal erosion, the tower sits very close to the cliff edge and is at risk of future collapse if it remains in place.

Our scope for this conservation project was to develop a methodology and specification for the careful dismantling of the existing tower to move it further, to preserve its history and secure its long term future as an iconic landmark on the Bude horizon.

The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund in Partnership with Bude and Stratton Town Council.
